Arnold Palmer is referred to many circles as the greatest professional golfer in the history of the sport. Nicknamed the 'King', he was the original pioneer of the sport as he was the first television celebrity as his career coincided with the rise of home TV viewing which began in the fifties. In nineteen seventy four he was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame and received a lifetime achievement award in nineteen eighty eight.
His career wins include four Masters. The first was in nineteen fifty eight, winning by one stroke, nineteen fifty nine, again winning by one stroke. In 1962 the tournament was won by play-off over Gary Player and Dow Finsterwald. The final Masters win cam in nineteen sixty four, which was won be a massive six strokes.
Amazingly, Arnold Palmer only won the U.S. Open once. After 54 holes he had a seven shot deficit, but cam back to win it by one stroke. That was in nineteen sixty.
The British Open was won twice, in nineteen sixty and in nineteen sixty two by a whopping six stokes.
Other legends include Gary Player, David LeadBetter and Johnny Miller.
